Behind the scenes

Sam Cunningham

Production manager

°1994, Belgium

“Being the producer with a foundation in theatre and film and a proclivity for bruising, I always thought circus was a foreign language to me. Turns out circus is so magical because it translates into a universal language.”

Sam: a.k.a Chaos coördinator Mama Mantha. The sturdy beam of the organization. Manages, steers, supports, embraces, listens, builds, livelovelaughs, and go go goes.

Jonas Vermeulen

°1992, Belgium

"Circus is a place for me where my jaw literally drops, not just in amazement, but because of the realization that there really are no boundaries."

Jonas Vermeulen is a self-taught jack-of-all-trades: one day a playful theatre maker, the next day a punctual spreadsheet designer, but for Circumstances he is mostly the business manager.

Piet Van Dycke

Artistic director

°1996, Belgium

"Circus is a form of poetry: constantly changing, not easily grasped, boundlessly diverse.”

Piet – also known as the King of Chaos, Papa Piet, or the-man-with-the-overflowing-inbox – dances between disciplines, builds bridges, and choreographs human stories into an exciting, touching whole. He sets generations in motion, lets dreams grow in scenographies, and calms storms with a smile. Humble, yet always there. All for that one moment where everything falls into place. Together, on the edge of time.

2002

Starts his circus adventure as the third member of Circusatelier Salto in Tienen.

2007
